A quiet saltwater pool tucked behind the rocks, away from the open sea.
Kolam Bidadari, sometimes called Berry's Pool, is a small saltwater pool set back among the karst, fed and refreshed by the sea but sheltered from the swell. The water sits still and clear over a sandy and rocky bottom, and the limestone walls around it keep it private and shaded for part of the day.
Names here are slippery. Kolam Bidadari (Fairy Pool) is a common Indonesian name used in several places, and locals and guides may point you to a slightly different spot under the same label, so confirm with your operator which pool you are visiting.
It is a short stop, more a calm swim and a few photos than a half-day activity, and it works well slotted between the busier viewpoints and caves.
Getting there
Like everything here it is reached only by boat, as a stop on a multi-day Labengki and Sombori trip. Most trips run from Kendari, with a 45 minute to one hour drive to the harbour and then roughly one hour by speedboat (about three hours by wooden boat), while some start from the Morowali and Bungku side; in all cases it is several hours by boat to reach this archipelago. Your guide will know the access point and any short walk in from where the boat ties up.
Best time
Midday light makes the pool glow at its best, though the shaded walls keep it pleasant even in strong sun. Calm seas in the dry season, roughly April to November, make the boat approach and the climb in easier.
Good to know
Footing on the rocks can be slick, so wear sandals with grip and take care entering the water. Because the name is used loosely in Indonesia, double check with your operator that you are heading to the saltwater pool you have in mind.
Guides in the area use both names for this sheltered saltwater pool. Since Kolam Bidadari is a common name elsewhere too, confirm the exact spot with your operator.
Yes, that is the main reason to stop. The water is calm and clear, just watch your footing on the rocks getting in and out.
Usually a short visit of half an hour or so for a swim and photos. It is normally combined with nearby viewpoints, caves or lagoons on the same day.
Add it to a route across Indonesia and we will work out the travel time and cost between every stop.
