Overview
Three days through Komodo National Park, on either of two boats that sail the same route. Akassa is 25 metres of wooden phinisi launched in 2021 with three suites, so it never carries more than ten guests. Semesta is 32 metres and eight suites, launched in 2023, and takes eighteen with Starlink aboard. The itinerary below is identical on both. What changes is the boat you sleep on and what a berth costs, which is why you pick the boat first and the room second.
The route covers everything the park is known for and then keeps going. Kelor and Manjarite on the first afternoon, the flying foxes lifting off Kalong at dusk, Padar before sunrise, the dragons at Komodo Village, Pink Beach and a drift over the manta cleaning station. The third morning is the one most two-night trips skip: the Taka Makassar sandbar, which surfaces on the falling tide, and a last long snorkel at Kanawa before you are back alongside.
Choosing your suite
Book by the suite rather than by the boat. On Akassa, Bumi sits on the upper deck with an ocean-facing window and is the least expensive way aboard, Langit is the room above everything with a balcony and a bathtub facing the water, and Laut is the largest, on the middle deck, with a jacuzzi in the bathroom. Laut and Langit each take two extra beds, priced well below a berth, which is how families of four travel here without booking two rooms. On Semesta the ladder runs from Moon, the owner's suite with its own balcony and jacuzzi, down through Earth, Mars and Sun to the four lower-deck doubles, and those lower rooms cost the same in August as they do in February.
Seasons and price
The operator runs two rate cards. January to May and September to December are the lower ones and the prices on this page are those. June to August costs more, and each suite shows its high-season rate next to the standard one so you are not quoted a surprise after you enquire. Semesta's two lower-deck tiers are the exception: they do not move at all.
A note on the park fee
Komodo National Park charges its entrance fee directly, IDR 650,000 for foreign visitors and IDR 300,000 for Indonesian citizens. We cannot collect it or pre-pay it for you, so budget for it separately and pay it at the park.

Pickup from your hotel in central Labuan Bajo, or from Komodo Airport if you land this morning. The drive to the harbour takes about ten minutes.

Board your boat, take your suite, and sit through the safety briefing on the sundeck while the crew clears the port.
- 11:00
Kelor Island. A short, steep climb of about twenty minutes up the ridge for the view back over the near islands, then a swim off the beach below.

Lunch on board under way, cooked in the galley while the boat repositions.
- 14:00
Manjarite. Calm, shallow and sheltered, which makes it the stop where nervous snorkellers get comfortable before tomorrow's currents. Coral starts a few metres off the beach.

Anchor off Kalong Island. At dusk thousands of flying foxes lift off the mangroves and cross the channel overhead. It lasts about twenty minutes and it is the reason the boat stops here rather than pressing on.

Wake call and coffee on the sundeck. The tender runs to Padar in the dark so you are on the path before the light.

Padar Island. Around 45 minutes of steps and packed earth to the viewpoint over the three bays. This is the photograph that sells Komodo, and it is worth the alarm.

Back aboard for breakfast while the boat repositions to Komodo Island.

Komodo Village. A park ranger walks the group through dragon country on a marked trail. Dragons are wild animals and sightings are not guaranteed, though the ranger station area is where they are seen most often.

Pink Beach. The sand is pink because of red coral fragments ground into it, strongest right at the waterline. The snorkelling straight off the beach is the best colour of the trip.

Manta Point at Karang Makassar. A drift snorkel along the cleaning station where reef mantas queue up to be picked clean. Currents run here, so the tender follows the group rather than the group swimming back.

Anchor for the night, then dinner on deck. The second night on board is the quiet one, after the earliest start and the longest day.

Taka Makassar. A bare crescent of sand in the middle of the sea that surfaces on the falling tide and is under water again by afternoon. Twenty minutes ashore, then snorkel the reef on its edge.

Kanawa Island. Shallow, clear and easy, with a reef that starts a few metres from the beach. The last swim of the trip and the one people stay in longest.

Good to know
Do I have to pay for two beds if I travel alone?
Only if you want the suite to yourself. Solo guests can either take the whole room and pay both berths, or go on the share list and be matched with another guest of the same gender at the single-berth price. Tell us which when you enquire.
How is this different from the other Komodo 3D2N trips?
The boat and the route. Akassa carries ten guests at most across three suites, where the other three-day liveaboards on this site carry twenty or more. The route also differs: this one starts at Kelor and Manjarite and ends at the Taka Makassar sandbar and Kanawa, rather than the other way around.
What does an extra bed cost?
Laut and Langit each take up to two extra beds, and an extra bed costs considerably less than a berth. The picker on this page prices it for you as soon as you set three or four guests in the suite, so you can see the difference before you enquire.
Can we take the whole boat instead?
Yes. Akassa is also sold as a private charter for the same three days, which works out well from about six guests upward. Ask us for the charter figure and we will send both so you can compare.
How fit do I need to be for Padar?
Reasonably. It is around 45 minutes of steps and packed earth, done in the dark with a head torch, and there is no shade on the way down. Most people manage it. If someone in the group would rather not, the tender brings them back to the boat and breakfast.
What if the weather changes the plan?
The captain reorders the stops rather than cancelling them, which is normal in Komodo and usually means an island swapped for a sheltered one on the same day. The headline sights, Padar, the dragons and Manta Point, are the last things to be dropped.
Booking and cancellation terms
- A 30% deposit confirms your booking. The balance is due 14 days before departure.
- Cancel more than 4 months before departure: 50% of what you have paid is refunded.
- Cancel 2 to 4 months before departure: 30% is refunded.
- Cancel less than 2 months before departure: no refund.
- The trip can be moved once, and the request has to reach us at least one month before departure.
- Children under 2 travel free. From 3 years old the full rate applies.
- In an emergency, or for weather, sea conditions or safety, the itinerary can change while the trip still sails.
Full terms are confirmed with your booking. Bank transfer fees are paid by the sender.
