Luwuk Banggai, Sulawesi Centrale

A spring-fed blue lake on Peleng Island, so clear the fallen logs look suspended.
Paisupok is a small freshwater lake on Peleng Island, fed by springs that keep the water cold and an intense blue-green. On a calm morning you can see straight to the sunken trees and pale rock on the bottom, which makes the surface look like it is barely there. It is the kind of place where photos look fake and are not.
There is a wooden boardwalk and a few platforms for jumping in. You can swim or paddle a small bamboo raft, but engine boats are not allowed, so it stays quiet.
This suits travelers who do not mind a real journey for a short, memorable swim, and who treat the spot gently.
Getting there
From Luwuk, take the daily public ferry from Pelabuhan Rakyat to Leme-Leme on Peleng (departs around 2pm, roughly 2 hours, about IDR 50,000 to 60,000), or charter a private speedboat (around 1 hour, far pricier). From Leme-Leme it is about 23 km on patched roads to the lake, best by hired car or scooter, then a 5 minute paved walk. The return ferry to Luwuk leaves Leme-Leme around 8am, so plan to overnight.
Best time
Come in the dry season (roughly April to October) and arrive early morning when the water is glassiest and the light hits the blue. Weekdays are far quieter than weekends.
Good to know
The crossing logistics mean you need at least one night on Peleng, so do not try it as a same-day trip. Bring cash for the ferry, driver, and a small local entry fee, since cards are useless here. Wear sandals you can swim in and pack out all your rubbish.
Not really. The ferry timings mean you arrive on Peleng in the afternoon and the return boat leaves the next morning, so budget one overnight.
Yes, there are platforms and the water is calm, though it is cold and deep in places, so it suits confident swimmers more than small children.
Basic only. Expect simple toilets, a few warungs nearby, and bamboo rafts for hire, but bring your own water and snacks to be safe.
