Labuan Bajo, Flores

The nearest island stop: a quick hill climb, a small beach, and easy swimming.
Kelor is one of the closest islands to Labuan Bajo, which makes it a common first or last stop on a Komodo day trip. The island is small, with a single grassy cone you can climb in about 15 to 20 minutes for a clean view over the surrounding islands and the boats anchored below.
At the bottom there is a short stretch of sand and clear, shallow water that is good for a relaxed swim, with some coral and fish near the rocks for a quick snorkel.
The climb is brief but the slope is steep and exposed, with loose ground and almost no shade, so it is hot work even though it is short.
Getting there
Kelor is a short boat trip from Labuan Bajo harbor, often the first stop because of how close it sits. It is included on most shared island-hopping speedboat tours, or you can take a private speedboat. It lies in the wider Komodo area, so park and conservation fees may apply depending on your route.
Best time
Early morning is best for calm water, soft light, and a cooler climb before the sun bakes the hill. The dry season, April to November, gives clearer water for swimming. Try to arrive before the bigger tour groups land.
Good to know
Wear shoes with grip for the loose, steep slope rather than sandals, and bring water and sun protection since there is no shade or shop. Take it slowly on the descent, which is where most people slip.
It is short, about 15 to 20 minutes to the top, but the slope is steep and loose. Grippy shoes and a steady pace make it easy enough.
Yes. There is a small sandy beach with clear, shallow water for swimming, plus some coral and fish near the rocks for a quick snorkel.
It is, precisely because it is so close to Labuan Bajo. It packs a viewpoint and a swim into a short stop, which is why many tours start or end here.
Add it to a route across Indonesia and we will work out the travel time and cost between every stop.
