A long golden-grey beach lined with beach clubs and beanbags, built for sunset.
Seminyak Beach is a wide, straight stretch of golden-grey sand running north from Kuta, and its main job is the sunset. The shoreline is open and the wave is a beach break, fun for beginner and intermediate surfers but often choppy, with currents that make swimming a stay-near-shore affair.
What defines Seminyak is the strip of beach clubs and beachfront bars set out with beanbags right on the sand. From mid-afternoon people drift in for cocktails and to watch the sun drop into the Indian Ocean, and the whole beach takes on a polished, sociable feel.
This is a developed, upmarket beach rather than a wild one, so come for the scene, the food, and the light.
Getting there
Seminyak Beach is walkable from most accommodation in the area, with beach access lanes leading off the main roads near Petitenget and Double Six. Scooters, Gojek, and Grab are easy for getting to a specific beach club. Parking near the access points is paid and limited at sunset.
Best time
Late afternoon into sunset is the prime window, when the beach clubs fill and the sky lights up. Mornings are quieter for a walk or a surf, and the dry season (roughly April to October) brings the cleaner sunsets.
Good to know
Beach clubs usually set a minimum spend for beanbags and daybeds, so the sand in front is the free option. Swim only where flagged, as rip currents are common, and keep an eye on belongings on the busy beach.
It is swimmable near shore on calm days, but the beach break brings waves and rip currents. Stay inside the flagged areas, watch the lifeguard flags, and do not swim out far.
It faces west over the Indian Ocean with an open horizon, and a line of beach clubs and beanbag bars sit right on the sand. That combination makes it one of the most popular sunset-drink spots in south Bali.
No, the sand itself is free to walk and sit on. The beanbags and daybeds belong to the beach clubs and bars, which usually require a minimum food and drink spend.
