A small white-sand island with the park's easiest sea-garden snorkeling off the beach.
Siladen is the smallest of the marine park islands, a quiet patch of white sand about three kilometers from Bunaken island. It is the most relaxed base in the area, with a handful of resorts and homestays and very little traffic.
The reef starts close to shore, which makes Siladen the friendliest spot in the park for snorkelers. The shallow sea garden off the beach and the house reef near the jetty are dense with hard and soft coral, reef fish, and the occasional passing turtle, all reachable without a boat.
Divers get the deeper wall by the jetty, often a gentle drift with fans and sponges. For non-divers who still want good water, Siladen is the easiest fit on this trip.
Getting there
Siladen is about an hour by boat from Manado, often via or alongside Bunaken island. Day-trip boats stop at the jetty reef, and if you stay on the island your resort arranges the transfer. The marine park e-ticket is required to be in the water here.
Best time
The dry season (April to November) gives the calmest seas and clearest water for snorkeling off the beach. Slack tide around midday is easiest for floating over the shallow garden.
Good to know
Check the tide before you snorkel the shallow garden, as low water can leave very little clearance over the coral, so keep your fins up to avoid touching it. Bring your own mask and snorkel if you can, and stay aware of any drift near the jetty wall.
Yes, it is the best island in the park for snorkelers. The reef is reachable straight from the beach and jetty, so you do not need to be a certified diver to enjoy it.
Yes, there are resorts and simpler homestays on the island. Staying over gives you quiet beaches and easy house-reef access before and after the day boats arrive.
Siladen's shallow garden is easier to reach from shore and very rich. Bunaken has the bigger walls, but for relaxed beach snorkeling Siladen is the gentler option.
