A round cliff-walled cove with a natural rock arch the sea flows through.
Broken Beach, or Pasih Uug, is a near-circular cove ringed by cliffs, with a natural archway at the bottom where the ocean washes in and out. From the rim you look down on the turquoise water swirling through the arch, and a short walking loop runs around the top edge.
There is no beach you can actually stand on here, despite the name. The whole experience is the clifftop loop and the photos from above.
It sits right next to Angel's Billabong, so the two are a single stop. Manta rays sometimes cruise through the cove below, visible from the rim on a clear, calm day.
Getting there
From the Toyapakeh harbor area it is roughly a 45 minute drive west on rough roads, by car with driver or rented scooter, usually combined with Angel's Billabong and Kelingking. Park at the shared lot and follow the path to the clifftop loop. One small access fee typically covers both Broken Beach and Angel's Billabong.
Best time
Mornings are cooler and less crowded, with kinder light for the cove. The dry season, April to October, gives the calmest seas and best chance of spotting mantas below. Midday brings the most day-trippers and harsh sun with no shade on the loop.
Good to know
The full clifftop loop takes about 15 minutes and the path is uneven, so wear proper shoes and watch your footing near the edge. There is little shade, so bring a hat, water, and sun protection.
No, you cannot walk on sand here. The draw is the cliff-ringed cove and the rock arch seen from the walking loop along the top.
Sometimes. On calm, clear days mantas drift through the cove and are visible from the rim, but it is luck, not a guarantee.
Around 45 minutes to an hour covers both, since they sit side by side. That includes the clifftop loop and time for photos.
