A sheltered east-coast cove with rock arches offshore and calmer water than its neighbors.
Atuh Beach is a curved cove on the southeast coast, framed by cliffs and a cluster of dramatic rock formations and arches standing in the sea offshore. It is the gentler twin to Diamond Beach next door, with warungs, shade, and water that is often calmer for a paddle.
You reach the sand by a stepped path down from the clifftop, shorter and easier than Diamond's stairway but still a climb back up. The viewpoints along the top, including the Thousand Islands lookout nearby, are worth the stop on their own.
It still gets surf, so check conditions before swimming out, and the east-coast roads to get here are long and rough.
Getting there
From the Toyapakeh or Banjar Nyuh harbor area it is about a 60 to 75 minute drive east on bumpy roads, by car with driver or scooter, on the same trip as Diamond Beach and the Thousand Islands viewpoint. Park at the clifftop and walk down. A small local access fee applies.
Best time
Mornings are cooler for the stairs and usually calmer on the water, before the midday crowds. The dry season, April to October, gives the most settled sea and clearest views of the offshore rocks.

Atuh is generally calmer than Diamond, but surf and currents still vary day to day, so judge the water before going in. Bring water and sun protection, and pair it with the nearby clifftop viewpoints to make the long drive worthwhile.
