A working sea temple on Seminyak's beach, low-key by day and a quiet sunset counterpoint.
Pura Petitenget is a Hindu sea temple right on the beach in Seminyak, surrounded by some of the area's best-known restaurants and beach clubs. It is an active place of worship tied to the same coastal temple lineage as Tanah Lot, and the name roughly refers to a 'mysterious chest' from local legend.
Unlike the big ticketed temples, Petitenget is small, free, and woven into daily life: you will see offerings at the gates and ceremonies on temple days. Non-Hindus cannot enter the inner courtyards, so the visit is about the gates, the beachfront setting, and the contrast with the surrounding nightlife.
It makes a quiet, quick stop, and the beach right beside it is a calmer place to catch the sunset.
Getting there
The temple is on Jalan Petitenget in north Seminyak, beside the beach and walkable from much of the area's accommodation. Scooters, Gojek, and Grab reach it easily, and beach access is right there. Parking along the street is limited.
Best time
Daytime is quiet for a brief, respectful look at the gates and the beach. Late afternoon pairs the temple with a Seminyak sunset. If a temple ceremony is on, the atmosphere is far richer, but keep a respectful distance.
Good to know
It is a working temple, so dress modestly, wear a sarong if entering any permitted areas, and do not climb on or photograph people mid-prayer without asking. During ceremonies, stand back and let worshippers pass.
You can view and photograph the temple from outside and visit the adjacent beach, but the inner courtyards are reserved for Hindu worshippers. Dress modestly and behave respectfully, especially during ceremonies.
There is generally no formal ticket, unlike Tanah Lot or Uluwatu. A small donation is appreciated, and you may need to pay for parking nearby.
It is a short, low-key stop rather than a major sight. It appeals if you want a glimpse of a working sea temple within Seminyak and a quieter patch of beach for sunset away from the busiest bars.
