The smallest, quietest Gili, with a turtle hatchery, a salt lake, and barely any noise.
Gili Meno is the middle island by location but the smallest and calmest in spirit, the one couples and quiet-seekers choose. It has the fewest bars, the slowest pace, and a salt lake in the interior, with white-sand beaches ringing the edge. You can walk around it in under an hour.
Meno runs a small turtle hatchery near the main beach, where rescued hatchlings are raised before release, and the reefs just offshore are among the best in the Gilis for spotting wild green and hawksbill turtles.
Facilities are limited and prices can be high, so this is somewhere to slow down rather than chase activity.
Getting there
Some fast boats from Bali stop directly at Gili Meno; otherwise come via Gili Trawangan or Gili Air on the public island-hopping boat or a short charter. The island-hopper runs only a couple of times a day on a fixed timetable, so check departure times. Boats land on the main east beach.
Best time
The dry season, May to September, brings the calmest water and clearest snorkeling. Mornings are best for turtle sightings and for the underwater statues offshore. Meno is quiet year round, which is the point.
Good to know
There is no ATM you should rely on here, so arrive with enough cash for your whole stay. Bring a mask for the easy shore snorkeling, and check the island-hopping boat schedule in advance, as missing it can strand you until the next run.
It is a small hatchery near the main beach that raises rescued green and hawksbill hatchlings until they are strong enough to release. It is donation-supported and a short walk from the boat landing.
It depends what you want. Meno is deliberately quiet, with few bars and a slow pace, which suits couples and relaxation. For nightlife you would choose Gili Trawangan instead.
Yes, the reefs just off Meno are some of the most reliable in the Gilis for wild turtles. Morning snorkels from the beach or a short boat give the best chances.
