Spring-fed natural pool in the forest, clear and cool, with eels living among the rocks.
Tilanga, also written Tilangnga, is a natural pool in Sarira in Makale Utara, fed continuously by underground springs and enclosed by bamboo, big trees and mossy boulders. The water is very clear, noticeably cold, and constantly moving through, which is why it stays clean despite being an entirely natural pool with no treatment of any kind. After a morning spent at burial caves and cliff tombs, an hour in cold water under trees is a considerable relief, and that contrast is most of why it is on the circuit at all.
The pool is home to freshwater eels, known locally as masapi. Torajans regard them as guardians of the spring, and there is a body of belief attached to them rather than just biology: the masapi at Tilanga are reported to be white, unlike the dark eels found in other Torajan springs, and a white or striped one, the masapi bonga, is said to bring good fortune to whoever sees it. They are not aggressive and pose no danger to swimmers, though feeling one move past your leg in clear water is a memorable introduction for most people.
Facilities are basic and that is the honest summary: a simple changing area, a few warungs nearby, and not much else. There is no equipment hire, no cafe, and nothing resembling supervision. It is a local swimming spot that visitors are welcome at, rather than an attraction built for them, and the pleasure of it is proportional to how little you were expecting.

行き方
Tilanga sits about 8 km north of Makale and roughly 1.5 km off the main Makale to Rantepao road, on small lanes near Lemo. Coming from Rantepao it is around 25 to 30 minutes by car or scooter, and it slots naturally into a southern-sites loop with Lemo and Londa, which is how most drivers and guides handle it. The turning off the main road is easy to miss and poorly signed, so it helps to have someone who knows it. From the parking area a short path leads down to the pool.
ベストシーズン
Late morning to early afternoon, once the air has warmed up enough that cold spring water is appealing rather than punishing. The dry season keeps the water at its clearest; heavy rain clouds it and makes the path down slippery. Weekdays are quieter than weekends, when local families use the pool, and if you want it more or less to yourself, arriving between the morning and afternoon waves of the southern circuit usually works.
知っておきたいこと
Bring a swimsuit, a towel and small notes for the entrance fee. Nothing is available for hire on site, and the changing facilities are rudimentary, so arriving ready to swim saves trouble. The rocks around the edge are wet and slippery, and there is no lifeguard or supervision of any kind, so take your own care getting in and out and watch children closely. The eels are harmless but real, and the local view of them as guardians of the spring is worth respecting: do not try to catch, handle or provoke them.

In Sarira, in the Makale Utara district, roughly 8 km north of Makale and about 1.5 km off the main Makale to Rantepao road. The turning is poorly signed, so a driver or guide who knows it helps.
It makes a genuine change of pace after the graves and tongkonan villages, and it sits close to Lemo and Londa on the same loop. On a hot Toraja day, an hour of cold water and shade is an easy sell.
Minimal. A simple changing area, some warungs nearby, and nothing else. No gear hire, no cafe and no supervision, so bring what you need and take responsibility for your own safety in the water.
