Wide grey-sand beach backed by big beach clubs, with a beginner-friendly beach break.
Berawa is Canggu's beach-club beach. The sand is broad, dark and volcanic, the shoreline more open and less rocky than Batu Bolong, and the beach break works for beginners and improvers on the right day, with surf schools operating here too. What actually defines it is the row of large beach clubs behind the sand, which is why many visitors split a day between a daybed, a pool and a short paddle.
Be aware that the beach club scene here is not as settled as it looks. In February 2025 a Bali provincial legislative commission recommended temporary closure for two of Berawa's biggest venues over incomplete permits and missing environmental documentation, and in August 2025 the governor and the Badung regent conducted an on-site inspection of tourism businesses along this beach. Individual venues open, close and change hands often enough that it is worth checking what is actually trading before you build a day around a name.
The currents deserve respect. A 23-year-old visitor drowned at Berawa in around August 2025, one of three drownings recorded along the Canggu coast that year. Balawista Badung is the organisation responsible for beach safety on this coastline, but do not assume a patrol is stationed in front of you. Swim inside flagged areas and take the flags seriously rather than treating them as decoration.
Berawa is developed, comfortable and easy, with food, drink and sunset views on tap. It is not a quiet escape and does not pretend to be one. Its other well-known feature is the traffic on the road in, which is among the worst in an area already notorious for it.

가는 방법
From central Canggu at Batu Bolong it is about 10 minutes by scooter in theory, though Jalan Pantai Berawa is one of the area's worst roads for congestion and the real time is often much longer in the afternoon. Ride a scooter or take a Gojek or Grab, and use the paid parking near the beach entrance. Walking in from nearby villas is common and frequently faster. Badung Regency signed a contract in May 2026 for a new relief road linking Jalan Subak Sari in Tibubeneng to Umalas, with a 210 day construction period. It is a new route rather than a fix for the existing shortcut, so expect works in the wider area through late 2026.
가기 좋은 시기
Mornings are quieter and better for a swim or a surf lesson, before the wind and the crowds build. Sunset is when the beach clubs come alive and the whole strip fills, so arrive early if you want a daybed or a clear patch of sand. Between roughly November and March the west monsoon carries marine debris onto Badung's beaches, with around 4,800 tonnes handled across the regency over the 2025 to 2026 season, so the sand is at its best in the dry months.
알아두면 좋은 점
Beach clubs generally charge a minimum spend for daybeds, so check the terms before you settle in, and confirm the venue is actually operating rather than relying on an older recommendation, since several of Berawa's largest clubs have been through permit scrutiny since early 2025. In the water, swim inside flagged zones and treat the currents as real: a visitor drowned here in around August 2025, and lifeguard cover cannot be assumed at every point along the beach. Bring cash for parking and warungs, and budget considerably more time than the map suggests for the drive in and out, because Jalan Pantai Berawa regularly grinds to a halt.
It is one of the more open and less rocky Canggu beaches, but the currents are genuine. A 23-year-old visitor drowned at Berawa in around August 2025, one of three drownings on the Canggu coast that year. Swim inside flagged areas and do not assume a lifeguard is posted where you are.
Berawa has some of Canggu's largest beach clubs, with pools, daybeds, food and DJs, and most run a minimum spend for loungers. Note that in February 2025 a provincial legislative commission recommended temporary closure for two of the biggest over permit and environmental documentation issues, and venues here change status often, so check before planning a day around one.
On the right conditions the beach break suits beginners and improvers, and surf schools operate here. On bigger or windier days it is better left to more experienced surfers, and Batu Bolong is the more consistent learner option.
Jalan Pantai Berawa is among the most congested roads in an area already known for it, and the ten minute ride from Batu Bolong can take far longer in the afternoon. A new relief road from Jalan Subak Sari to Umalas went under contract in May 2026 with a 210 day build, but that is a separate route rather than a fix for this one.
The dry months. From roughly November to March the west monsoon pushes marine debris onto Badung's coast, with around 4,800 tonnes handled across the regency over the 2025 to 2026 season, mostly driftwood and plastic carried in from other islands.
