A sheltered C-shaped cove between two headlands, usually calm and quiet.
Mawun is a tight, deeply curved cove set between two green headlands, roughly halfway along the road running west from Kuta towards Selong Belanak. The shape is the whole point. The two arms of land close most of the way round the bay, which takes the edge off swell that hits the rest of this coast hard and usually leaves a calmer, more swimmable pocket of water inside.
It stays quieter than its neighbours mostly because it is smaller and there is less here. A short row of warungs and some rental loungers sit at the back of the sand and that is about the extent of the infrastructure. Both headlands can be scrambled partway up for a look down over the cove, which is a better use of half an hour than it sounds, and gives you the shape of the place properly.
Do not read calm as safe. This is still the exposed south coast of Lombok, the water deepens quickly towards the centre of the cove, and when a bigger swell wraps in past the headlands the currents inside change character. Do not count on lifeguard cover at any beach on this coastline. Watch the water for a few minutes before going in, and if you are unsure, stay where you can stand.
There is very little natural shade on the sand, which is why the loungers and umbrellas are usually worth their rental if you are staying more than an hour. Bring your own water and snacks if you are particular, because the warung choice here is thin compared with Tanjung Aan or Selong Belanak, and the nearest proper shop is back in Kuta.

行き方
Mawun is about 15 to 20 minutes by road west of Kuta, roughly halfway along the route towards Selong Belanak, and easy enough by scooter, hired car or Grab. A signed turnoff drops down to a parking area behind the beach where a small cash charge is collected locally. Because it is on the same road, it pairs naturally with Selong Belanak as a half-day loop out of Kuta rather than a destination of its own. Bring small notes, as there is no card payment and no ATM anywhere along this stretch.
ベストシーズン
The dry season, roughly May to September, brings the calmest water and the clearest skies. Mornings and weekdays are quietest, since Mawun sees fewer visitors than the bigger-name beaches nearby, and afternoons tend to get gustier as the onshore wind builds. As on the rest of this coast, expect more marine debris on the sand during the rainy months when currents push it ashore.
知っておきたいこと
Bring your own water and food if you want any choice, because the handful of warungs here is limited. Loungers and umbrellas usually carry a rental charge and there is almost no natural shade on the open sand. On the water: the cove shape shelters it, but it is not a swimming pool. The bottom drops away towards the middle, currents strengthen when bigger swell wraps past the headlands, and there is no lifeguard service to rely on. Watch the water before you get in, keep within your depth if conditions look at all lively, and carry small cash notes for parking and the warungs.
The deep curve of the cove shelters it from a lot of the swell that hits this coast, so it is often calmer than neighbouring beaches. It is not risk-free: the water deepens towards the centre, currents strengthen when bigger swell wraps past the headlands, and there is no lifeguard cover to rely on.
Generally quieter than Tanjung Aan or Selong Belanak, largely because it is smaller and has far less on offer. Mornings and weekdays are the most peaceful.
A short row of warungs and some rental loungers and umbrellas behind the sand, and not much else. There is no card payment and no ATM on this stretch of road, so bring cash for parking, food and any sunbed you use.
It is about 15 to 20 minutes west by road, roughly halfway to Selong Belanak, via a signposted turnoff down to a parking area behind the beach. Scooter, hired car and Grab all work, and it pairs easily with Selong Belanak in one half-day loop.
Very little natural shade on the open sand, which is why the rental umbrellas and loungers behind the beach are worth paying for if you plan to stay more than an hour.
