You get from Labuan Bajo to Komodo Island by boat, and only by boat. A shared speedboat leaves the harbour at 07:00 and lands on Komodo Island at 11:20, after stops at Padar and Pink Beach, for IDR 1,450,000 (about $81) per person. A phinisi takes three days over the same water, sleeps in the park and reaches the island on the second morning.
Both leave from Labuan Bajo harbour, about ten minutes from Komodo Airport. Times and prices are from our tour pages in October 2026.

A speedboat reaches Padar, the first stop, in about 75 minutes. A wooden phinisi needs around three hours for the same leg, which is why it stays out among the islands at night instead of going back to town.
On both boats the island visit is a ranger-led walk. The day trip gets about 2.5 km of trail and lunch at the ranger station before it moves on at 13:00.
Can you go from Labuan Bajo to Komodo Island without a tour?
Not in practice. No road reaches the park, the dragon trails can only be walked with a park ranger, and entry needs a dated slot booked in advance. You could hire a local boat and arrange the rest yourself, but nearly everyone goes with an operator who files the park booking and carries the safety gear.
From the airport to the boat
The harbour is in town, so one short ride from Komodo Airport covers both. A fair taxi fare is IDR 100,000 to 150,000, and our Labuan Bajo airport guide explains why the first quote is usually double that.
Do not plan to land and sail on the same morning. The first flight from Bali arrives at 08:15 and the phinisi collects guests at 08:30, which works on paper and fails with one delay. Sleep in town the night before.
Labuan Bajo, Flores
Komodo Island and back in one day
Padar, Pink Beach, the ranger walk on Komodo Island, Taka Makassar, Manta Point and Turtle Bay, with hotel pickup at 06:30 and lunch included.
What to arrange before you sail
Since 1 April 2026 the park admits 1,000 visitors a day, and every ticket is booked ahead through SiOra against a dated slot. There are no walk-ins. We file the booking for you and need passport details two to three days before departure.
Park fees are paid on top of the boat. Foreign visitors pay IDR 250,000 a day, and the day trip comes to about IDR 400,000 with the harbour and ranger fees, in cash. Our Komodo National Park guide covers the rules once you are ashore.
The crossing can close at a day's notice
The harbour master in Labuan Bajo stops boats sailing to Komodo and Padar when high waves are forecast. It happened for a few days at a time in late July, early August and twice in September 2026. Keep a spare day before any international flight.
Komodo Island or Rinca?
Dragons live on both. Our boats land at Loh Liang on Komodo Island. Loh Buaya on Rinca is closer to Labuan Bajo and its walk is shorter, and on some closure days boats have still been cleared to sail there while Komodo and Padar were shut.
Booking the crossing
With one day, book the speedboat to Komodo Island. With three, take the phinisi that sleeps in the park and see Padar at sunrise as well. Send us your dates before you buy flights, because the park slot is the part that sells out.
